How to use the verb “To Like” in spanish
Spanish has a different way to say, “I like it” compared to English. If we translated “I like it” literally into Spanish, it would be “yo gusto de eso”, but it is a wrong translation.
If we want to say “I like it”, in Spanish, we have to say: “me gusta” (“me like it”). However, it can get worse, because if we wanted to say: “I like her”, it would be: “a mi me gusta ella”. It´s crazy I know.
Where all those words come from? It´s easier to teach this with many examples, first:

The best way to learn this structure in Spanish is using many examples. First, we’re going to use it with: eso / aquello = that, and esto = this:
Me gusta eso in Spanish:
x. I like that car
= Me gusta ese carro
x. You like that girl
= Te gusta esa chica
x. She likes that boy
= A ella le gusta ese chico
= Le gusta ese chico (a ella)
x. He likes that girl
= A él le gusta esa chica
= Le gusta esa chica (a él)
x. My mom likes this book
= A mi mamá le gusta este libro
x. We like those women
= A nosotros nos gustan esas mujeres
= Nos gustan esas mujeres
x. You like those men
= A ustedes les gustan esos hombres
x. They like that videogame
= A ellos les gusta ese videojuego
x. They like these dolls
= A ellas les gustan estas muñecas
How do I say that I like to do something in Spanish
We only have to use the second verb that we like to do in its original form (“comprar”, “Comer”, “Viajar”)
For example:
x. I like to eat pizza
= Me gusta comer pizza
x. You like to watch movies
= Te gusta ver películas
x. He likes to go to the mall
= A él le gusta ir al centro comercial
x. She likes to speak spanish
= A ella le gusta hablar español
x. My dad likes to sell wine
= A mi papá le gusta vender vino
x. We like to use computers
= A nosotros nos gusta usar computadoras
x. You like to drink beer
= A ustedes les gusta beber cerveza
x. They like to play basketball
= A ellos les gusta jugar baloncesto
x. They like to play with dolls
= A ellas les gusta jugar con muñecas
x. Dogs like to eat dogfood
= A los perros les gusta comer comida para perros
How do I say that I don’t like something in Spanish
To deny that we like something we just have to add a “no” before the “me”, “te”, “le”, “nos”, “os” or “les” pronouns. For example.
x. I like music
= Me gusta la música
= A mí me gusta la música
x. I don’t like music
= No me gusta la música
= A mí no me gusta la música
x. You don’t like to go there
= No te gusta ir allí
= A ti no te gusta ir allí
x. She doesn’t like to exercise
= A ella no le gusta ejercitarse
= No le gusta ejercitarse
x. He doesn’t like to travel
= A él no le gusta viajar
= No le gusta viajar
x. We don’t like old men
= A nosotras no nos gustan los hombres viejos
= No nos gustan los hombres viejos
x. You don’t like my brothers
= A ustedes no les gustan mis hermanos
= No les gustan mis hermanos
= No os gustan mis hermanos
= A vosotros no os gustan mis hermanos
x. They don’t like to fight
= A ellos no les gusta pelear
= No les gusta pelear
= A ellas no les gusta pelear
How do I ask if someone likes something in Spanish?
When we ask something in Spanish the sentence doesn’t change, the only thing that change is the way we say it.
x. Do you like to buy shoes?
= ¿Te gusta comprar zapatos?
x. Does she like to dance?
= ¿A ella le gusta bailar?
x. Does he like that job?
= ¿A él le gusta ese trabajo?
x. Do you like soda?
= ¿A ustedes le gusta la gaseosa? (o el refresco)
x. Do they like healthy food?
= ¿A ellos les gusta la comida saludable?
How do I ask if someone doesn’t like something in spanish?
It’s the same as above. The only thing that changes is the pronunciation. For example:
x. You don’t like to work
= No te gusta trabajar
x. Don’t you like to work?
= ¿No te gusta trabajar?
x. Doesn’t she like to read?
= ¿A ella no le gusta leer?
x. Doesn’t he like books?
= ¿A él no le gustan los libros?
x. Don’t you like to save money?
= ¿A ustedes no les gusta ahorrar?
= ¿No os gusta ahorrar?
x. Don’t they like to go swimming?
= ¿A ellos no les gusta ir a nadar?
How do I say that I would like or wouldn’t like to do something in Spanish?
To say: “I would like…” we need to change the end of the word “gustar” to “gustaria”. For example:
x. I like to have a walk (with out would)
= Me gusta dar un paseo
x. I’d like to have a walk
= Me gustaría dar un paseo
x. I wouldn’t like to stay here
= No me gustaría quedarme aquí
= A mí no me gustaría quedarme aquí
x. You wouldn’t like to eat that
= No te gustaría comer eso
x. She’d like your father
= A ella le gustaría tu padre
x. He woludn’t like to drink from that glass
= A él no le gustaría beber de ese vaso
x. We’d like to have a great breakfast
= Nos gustaría tener un gran desayuno
x. You’d like to see her again
= Os gustaría verla otra vez
x. They wouldn’t like to get hurt
= A ellos no les gustaría salir heridos
How would I ask if someone would like to do something in Spanish?
Nothing change, we only must change the way we say the above sentences. For example:
x. Would you like to have a walk?
= ¿Te gustaría dar un paseo?
x. Would he like to stay here?
= ¿A él le gustaría quedarse aquí?
x. Wouldn’t she like to eat this?
= ¿A ella no le gustaría comer esto?
x. Wouldn’t you like to buy that bike?
= ¿No os gustaría comprar esa bicicleta?
= ¿No les gustaría comprar esa bicicleta?
x. Would they like to become engineers?
= ¿A ellos no les gustaría hacerse ingenieros?
